Cass County Amateur Radio Club to take part in Amateur Radio Field Day June 25-26
Members of the Cass County Amateur Radio Club will gather to operate their “ham” radio stations for 24 consecutive hours beginning at 2pm on Saturday June 25th, 2016.
The event will be held at the Cass County Emergency Management Agency building at 1227 north State Road 17, just north of Logansport. The club gathers each year to participate in the American Radio Relay League Field Day event.
The goal of field day is to introduce the public to the amateur radio hobby, allow local ham radio operators to practice their skills at making as many contacts as possible during the 24 hours of the event, and to have fun and fellowship.
Amateur radio functions completely independent of the Internet or cell phone infrastructure. When other communications systems fail or become over-loaded, amateur radio can still operate and get vital messages through during natural or man-made disasters.
Members of the Cass County Amateur Radio Club invite the public to attend the local Field Day event. A special amateur radio station will be available so members of the public of all ages can get a feel for the hobby, by getting on the air themselves with assistance from a licensed ham radio operator.
